As most schools across Europe were closed down due to the COVID 19 crisis, Pro Carton - the European association of cartonboard and folding carton manufacturers - has launched its successful initiative TICCIT ("Trees into Cartons, Cartons into Trees", in German). "Trees into Cartons, Cartons into Trees") to help parents across Europe to teach their children about environmental issues in a playful way in this unprecedented situation.
The newly launched initiative "TICCIT at Home" is primarily aimed at children aged between 7 and 11 years. It explains the topics of sustainability and renewability, and shows children how to plant a tree seedling (or a scion or seed) first in a biodegradable cardboard box and then in the soil. Supporting online material is available for parents to download free of charge in eight languages, including a comprehensive programme guide, an adaptable presentation with pictures and notes and a colourful poster template. Launched across Europe in 2018, the initiative aims to educate future generations about sustainability and the benefits of carton packaging. The project was originally launched by The Paperboard Packaging Council in America and to date over 115,000 children have participated.
